So, we’re at the business end of the season where most promotion and relegation matters are settled. For me, it’s been a fragmented season in the sense that we’re only playing 2 or 3 games each month to make the season stretch from September to April. And, in my humble opinion this is one of the reasons why we haven’t been able to put out a settled side. With a number of public servants playing for the club, they have to fit in training and playing around their shifts. And it ain’t always that easy. Back in the good old days, we had a fixture list which started on the rock hard pitches in September, usually with a trail match against Blackheath 2nds. And it went right the way through to Easter when most of the club jumped on a coach and head for all the four corners of the British Isles and Ireland for the annual tour. Much easier to fit in rugby around work and pleasure.

Today, we head down the M20 to take on another side that have struggled as much as us to put together a string of consistent displays. Ashford rugby club are today’s opponents and its playing record is P17 W3 L14. Last time out for them, it was a HWO for Sevenoaks 2nds. We’ve been there on a few occasions this season. The last time that we met was on 16 November, a day where the stars aligned and we were able to put out a competitive side. We won 53-14. Let’s hope for another performance like that today.
