For those of a certain age, will remember that in the dim and distant past we used to have fixtures. Not league fixtures, just good old fashioned fixtures where clubs would play each other from the first XV through to the fifth XV. The firsts, thirds and Fuffs - as Jock Young might have said would have been at home. Whilst the seconds and fourths, would be away.
We always started our season with a fixture against Gravesend. Wanstead was the first Saturday in December, Old Elthamians was over Christmas, Old Gravesendians was in March. Other opponents back in the day included Erith, Park House, Old Beccehamian, Shirley Wanders, Basildon, Rockford Hundred, Romford and Gidea Park, Brentwood and East London.
So, on Saturday 19 August 2023, the first team squad make the short journey through the Blackwall Tunnel to take on our old friends, East London RFC in a pre-season friendly.
East London ply its trade in Essex 1 and had a good season in 2022-23 where they finished in 5th place. So, it looks to be an even match-up.

I am reliably informed that the sun will be shining on 19 August so why not make that 6.8 mile trip through the Tunnel or if you fancy walking, it’ll take a couple of hours. The lads would really appreciate your support.
